About Wharfside Clinic at St. Mary's
Wharfside Clinic provides a free, friendly and confidential service five days a week. Wharfside aims to support people with HIV infection, their partners, family and friends.
In addition to the appointment based clinics, there is a walk-in service that operates Monday - Friday for patients registered with the Department for the emergency assessment of medical problems relative to HIV infection.
The Clinical Trials Centre is one of the few purpose built centres in the UK for testing new treatments and vaccines for HIV and provides access to all important national and international clinical trials. Almroth Wright started a research department at St Mary's Hospital in 1902. he is best know for his work advancing vaccination. Almroth Wright helped to develop a vaccine against typhoid and he convinced the armed forces to administer this to troops in World War One. The innoculation department at St. Mary's was one of the earliest research facilities attached to a hospital in the UK. Over 100 years on and the new Academic Health Science Centre continues that vision.
Wharfside Patients Forum exists to support the Jefferiss Wing and its patients by providing support, education and a voice for individuals in how the clinic is run. We work with staff to share responsibility for effecting change and maintaining excellence.
